WHOLE HOUSE ENERGY DIAGNOSTICS

ESG uses the whole house diagnostic approach to get a clear picture of the causes of building energy problems which usually manifest themselves as high bills and/or low comfort levels.  Typically, window leakage, lack of proper insulation or undersized heating systems are blamed for energy problems, and in some cases, these are contributing factors.  However, it has been our experience over the last fifteen (16) years with 10,000 buildings tested, that the real causes are more obscure and related to the way the building was originally framed.  The whole house diagnostic approach pinpoints these problems so they can be dealt with rather than relying on the trial and error method which in most cases does not produce a cure.  Once the problems are identified, a cost-effective strategy is then developed to produce a permanent cure.  The cost of this diagnostic service is $595.00 for houses up to 4,000 SQ. FT. and includes the following:

Air Leakage Test
A fan depressurization air leakage test will be performed using a Retrotech blower door to pinpoint major air leakage sites.

Infrared Scan
An AGA 110 infrared scanner will be used to identify insulation voids prior to the air leakage test and again during the air leakage test to help pinpoint major air leakage and convective loop sites.

Leak Trace
Leak tracing will be used to help identify air leakage sites during the fan depressurization test.

Duct Leakage & Register Flow Tests
All duct seams in unfinished basements and attic's will be leak tested with a leak tracer.  All delivery and return registers will be flow tested and evaluated.

Visual Inspection
A visual inspection will be performed from the basement to the attic to help identify major leakage and convective loop sites and to evaluate attic insulation levels, basement insulation requirements and duct system design and installation.

Report
A report will be sent within two (2) weeks of testing, listing the major energy loss features in the house, what corrective action should be taken and the cost of that corrective action.
